HOW TO CHOOSE?

 What is important to you?:

 Being close to Denmark or far away?

 To study at a highly ranked and accredited institution?

 Being close to family and friends?

 Great academic opportunities and specific courses of your interest?

 That your expenses are not too high? (Australia is expensive, Poland is cheaper)

 The experience of an exotic and different culture

You may choose up to 20 universities. 5-10 universities is recommended.

BUTremember; only choose universities you would actually like to go to. If you cancel your exchange, the position cannot be offered to other students and will be lost. Show consideration for your fellow students!

Approx. 320-370 EUR per month

WHO CAN APPLY

In order to apply for an exchange position you must:

 Be a full time student at AU

 Be able to transfer 20 ECTS to 30 ECTS from your study abroad to you AU study programme

 Be aware! Previously passed courses, summer university courses and credit transfer

 If you received more than 10 ECTS of obligatory credit transfer from a former uncompleted study programme, when you where admitted to your current study programme, contact your AU

coordinator

INTERNATIONAL STUDENTS ON EXCHANGE

 International students with a residence and work permit to study in Denmark, must contact the authorities, if they have any questions regarding upholding their residence and work permit if they go abroad on exchange

 The same applies to scholarship students

BACHELOR PROJECT AND MASTER THESIS

 If you are going on exchange to a partner university with late semester start, you may have to start writing your bachelor project or master thesis while on exhange.

 There is no dispensation for handing in the project/thesis at a later date, even though your final semester at AU starts while your are still on exchange.

EXCHANGE – DURING SEMESTER W/ELECTIVES

 You are expected to take 30 ECTS during your study abroad*

*At some universities you will only be able to take 20 ECTS (check MoveON)

*At some universities it may be difficult to take more than 20 ECTS (check MoveON)

*Some students will not pass one or more courses during their Study Abroad

If you transfer only 20 ECTS or 25 ECTS from your Study Abroad you can:

 Take courses at AU Summer University (before or after your exchange semester)

 Take additional courses the following semester upon your return

APPLY FOR EXCHANGE – STEP 1 + 2

 Step 1: Apply to AU/Aarhus BSS

• Application deadline : December 1, 2020 (midnight)

• Application form - online via MoveON: opens November 2, 2020

• Response to application: Approx. January 15, 2021 (Check your AU email account!)

Step 2: Apply to Host university (more information will follow in February)

• Application deadline: between February and June (varies a lot)

• Application form: paper or online

COURSE SELECTION IN APPLICATION

In the online application you will be asked to write course selection at the host university. This is to ensure that you only apply for universities that offer courses which are relevant to your study

programme and which you find interested. Finding relevant courses is your responsibility!!

 You are welcome to list previously pre-approved courses from AU GO in the form

 This is NOT an application for pre-approval of courses!

 Do not submit course descriptions

 No guarantee that previously approved courses will be offered/approved again!

 The course selection from is not binding. You will later be asked to choose courses at your allocated host university

JOINT APPLICATION

 In the online application you may choose ”joint application”, if you and a fellow student wish to go abroad to the same host university

 You and your fellow applicant must submit individual online applications but with the exact same list of priorities

you will be allocated positions according to the applicant with the lowest GPA

 AU cannot guarantee exchange at the same host university

 Only relevant for master students, who have not received any grades from Aarhus University yet, and who do not hold a bachelor’s degree from Aarhus University

HOW WE ALLOCATE EXCHANGE POSITIONS

 According to your Grade Point Average (GPA)

 Your GPA consists of a weighted average of all grades obtained at AU as of early December 2020

 If you have not yet received any AU grades, we will calculate a GPA based on your Bachelor diploma

 Grades from non-completed study programmes at AU are not included unless credit transferred to your current study programme

 It is not possible to say which GPA you need for a specific university as the GPA changes every year

YOU HAVE BEEN NOTIFIED THAT……..

…You have been allocated an exchange position 

You will be asked to accept the exchange position – you will only receive one offer, so make sure your have prioritized correctly

You cannot be allocated a new exchange position

You cannot swap your exchange position with a fellow student

…You have not been allocated an exchange position

 Apply for a left over position in the 2nd application round

 2nd application round: Early February (time + date to be announced on Facebook/Study Portal)

 2nd application round: Only if you were not allocated a position in the 1st application round or you forgot to apply

OVERVIEW

1. You apply from November 2 to midnight December 1

2. You are notified of the results on your AU email in mid January

3. You take an English language test if required by your host university

4. You participate in the Prepare for Exchange – Information Meeting in February 5. Aarhus BSS nominates you to the host university

6. You receive information about the host university’s application procedure

7. You apply for admission (including visa/residence permit if relevant and housing) 8. You are admitted by the host university

9. You apply to your AU Study Board for a pre-approval of your courses abroad (https://mit.au.dk) 10. Off you go on your study abroad adventure

11. When you return: Apply for credit transfer of courses abroad to your AU study programme

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS (FAQ)

 Q: What are the most popular destinations? (Popular = high GPA)

 A: Changes from year to year – you never know, don’t worry about other students’ GPA - just apply

 Q: Do I need to take a language test (TOEFL/IELTS)?

 A: Maybe. In January, when you know where you are going, check the info in MoveON. If a test is required, you have to sign up for a test in January/February

 Q: The university I want to apply to has a GPA requirement of 7. My GPA is only 6.9. Can I still apply?

 A: NO. The GPA is decided by the host university

 Q: I want to go to the UK. What about my Erasmus grant and Brexit?

A: Nobody knows. But all students who do not get an Erasmus grant, will get a BSS Travel Grant

 Q: Are the courses listed in AU GO the only courses available at the host university?

 A: No. The courses in AU GO are just courses which have been pre-approved for other students the past couple of years. It is not a final list of available courses and there is no guarantee that these specific courses will be available when you go on exchange

 Q: Why are there no courses listed in AU GO for my study programme?

 A: Maybe it’s a new university or maybe you are the first student going from your degree programme

 Q: How do I find out, who is going to the same university as me?

 A: You will receive an email in the Spring with names of the students from your study programme, who is going to the same university as you, if any

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS (FAQ)

 Q: Do I still have to hand in my bachelor project or master thesis at the end of my 6th (bachelor) or 4th (master) semester, even though I will return from my exchange after my final semester at AU has started?

 A: Yes. You must hand in your bachelor project or master thesis at the same time as the other

students. There is no dispensation even though you exchange semester ends after your last semester at AU has started.

COVID 19 INFORMATION

 Impossible to say what the situation will be like in Autumn 2021 and Spring 2022

 If your host university cancels all exchange, you will be able to take electives at AU instead

 You will not be offered a new exchange position
