t is with great sadness that we report the death of Paul Muller on June 9th, 1992. Paul was lecturer in systematic theology at Copenhagen University where he was a leading specialist in Kierkegaard. From 1985-1991 he was Director of the University’s Department of Søren Kierkegaard Research, and it was particu

larly in this period that he endeared himself to scholars and stu

dents from all over the world. Paul was not only known as an able scholar ready and willing to explain Kierkegaard to any needing his help, he was also appreciated for his friendly gener

osity and sense of humour. Paul took a leading role in the Søren Kierkegaard Society, where he was Secretary in 1982, Vice-presi

dent in 1986, and President from 1987 onwards. Finally, in con

nection with Kierkegaard, his work as lecturer with the Danish People’s University (Folkeuniversitetet) should be mentioned.

Here Paul attracted large numbers to his classes through his illuminating in-depth exegesis of Kierkegaard texts, his metho

dology being reflected in a number of articles and books that came from his pen. He will be missed by many.

K

ierkegaardiana 13 came out in 1984, vol. 14 in 1988 and 15 in 1991. The present issue, vol. 16, follows a year later, since we now aim to publish Kierkegaardiana annually.

The present issue reflects the scope and variety of Kierke

gaard research today: his relevance in current philosophical debate (Hinrich Fink-Eitel on Kierkegaard and Foucault), the growing interest in a rhetorical reading of Kierkegaard’s works (George Pattison on the upbuilding discourses), the continuing debate on the relation between Kierkegaard and Hegel (Vagn Andersen and Anders Moe Rasmussen), Kierkegaard’s view of the imagination and the feminine (M. Jamie Ferreira), Kierke

gaard’s concepts (Alastair McKinnon) and Kierkegaard’s influen

ce on modern literature (Jacques Caron). The articles by Hin

rich Fink-Eitel, Vagn Andersen, Anders Moe Rasmussen and George Pattison were given as papers at the Kierkegaard Confe

rence held at Aarhus University (1-3 June, 1992) to mark the Theological Faculty’s 50th anniversary: “Søren Kierkegaard:

Thinker, Poet and Communicator. On the Boundary between Modern and Post-modern”.

This issue of Kierkegaardiana also contains a bibliography covering the last decade. It is the intention of the editors to include in each number a bibliography of Kierkegaard material published during the year. We would thus be grateful for infor

mation concerning gaps in the previously published bibliogra

phies and about new publications. Please send information and, if possible, offprints, to the editorial address.
