Studies in the Nordic Countries

When allocated a study abroad through the Nordplus/Nordlys program you are automatically nominated by your Faculty

The size of the grants will depend on length of stay and the individual Nordplus networks

Nordplus:

Media studies, history, biology, law, medicine etc..

Nordlys: university wide

Expected amount is EUR 150-200 (DKK 1.100-1.500) per month

Studies in Europe, incl. Nordic Countries

When allocated a study abroad through the Erasmus+ program you are automatically nominated by your Faculty

The size of the grant will depend on destination and length of stay

Expected amount is EUR 285-335 (DKK 2.100-2.500) per 30 days

You may get an extra grant, if you participate in a language course and the length of the stay therefore is prolonged (up to 1 month)

Aarhus BSS Travel Grant:

Available only to students who do not receive Erasmus/Nordplus/Nordlys grant

The grant is allocated after credit transfer/incorporation of courses

You are eligible for DKK 5,000 for a credit transfer of 25 ECTS and DKK 10,000 for a credit transfer of 30 ECTS

Deadline May 1 (autumn)

Freemovers, who receive Udlandsstipendium, are not eligible for the grant

CAN I RECEIVE SU WHILE I AM ABROAD ?

If you are not a Danish citizen you still have to meet the conditions linked to your SU approval, e.g. work 10-12 hours per week for you Danish employer.

If in doubt contact the Danish Agency for Higher Education for confirmation of the conditions specific to your SU approval (http://www.su.dk/english/su-as- a-foreign-citizen/enquiries-regarding-equal-status-with-danish-citizens/)

Your study/internship aboroad must be preapproved as a part of your education at AU

You must have SU left

ADDRESS WHILE YOU ARE ABROAD

If your registered address in DK is the same as your parents OR If your registered address is abroad, you will receive SU at the lower rate

”hjemmeboende” (living with parents)

In order to receive SU at the higher rate ”udeboende” (living away from

parents) you must inform the SU system by minSU that you are temporarily

abroad and not staying with your parents. (Særlig bopælsstatus)

TRANSFER OF ECTS CREDITS

Send your enrollment confirmation or your internship contract with your preapproval of ECTS credit transfer to the SU-office before going abroad

Make sure you inform your study centre on completion of your study abroad or

internship

INTERNSHIPS

If you receive any salary for your internship you cannot receive SU during your internship

However, your place of work is allowed to contribute to your documented expenses e.g. transportation or telephone bills

It is also possible to receive a gratuity of maximum 3.000 DKR per month for you unpaid internship and still receive the SU

You have the possibility to apply for an advancement of SU prior to starting

your paid internship to cover the gap between receiving your first salary and

your last SU payment.

SCHOLARSHIP FOR STUDY ABROAD

You can apply a scholarship (Udlandsstipendium) for a study abroad period that is a part of your Danish study programme

One of the conditions to receive the scholarship is that you are entitled to the SU.

You can find all the conditions on http://www.su.dk/english/scholarships-for- study-abroad/

The scholarship is a subsidy for full or partial payment of the tuition fees

You can also apply for a loan (udlandsstudielån). The loan will cover the difference between the Danish scholarship and the tuition fees (maximum of 104.575 Dkr)

The deadline for applying for the scholarship is the last day of the period for which

you are applying for a scholarship

Make sure your expected completion date at Aarhus University is correct in minSU

Send relevant documentation to the SU-office at Aarhus University su@au.dk

Make sure that your address is registered according to the rules.

Check your financial statements in your e-boks.

Apply for ECTS credit transfer upon your return.
