1 Executive Summary

This report presents the results of the noise assessment for the Kriegers Flak wind farm project in Denmark . The project consists of 72 Siemens SWT 8 MW wind turbines with 104.9 m hub height.

The calculation methods follow the previous Danish regulation (Bekendtgørelse nr 1736 21/12/2015 from the Danish Environmental Agency) which is valid for Kriegers Flak.

The calculations are performed for both normal and low frequency noise. A preliminary calculation is made to check whether any existing wind turbines shall be included in the calculation according to the “15 dB rule”. The calculations show that in none of the cases, it is required to include existing turbines.

Finally for both the normal and low frequency noise, the noise immision of Kriegers Flak wind farm complies with

the Danish Regulation, bekendtgørelse nr.1736 21/12/2015.

2 Method

The noise propagation model is described in “Bekendtgørelse nr 1736 af 21/12/2015” from the Danish Agency.

The propagation model takes into account that the wind turbines are defined as Offshore turbines.

Two noise targets are considered: Normal noise in the range 63 Hz to 10 kHz and low frequency noise from 10 Hz to 160 Hz. In both cases the aggregated dB(A) value at the receptors are compared to the noise target.

The noise targets for normal noise and low frequency noise are described below.

As offshore wind turbines a lower ground attenuation is used than for onshore wind turbines. In the low frequency calculation a transition zone at the coastline (200m) is included behind which onshore ground attenuation is used.

The normal range noise calculation does not include a coastline transition zone.

The source noise levels of the wind turbine has been provided by Vattenfall and are presented in Figure 2 and Figure 3.

According to the guideline from the Environmental Agency, neighbors to existing wind turbines have to be re- assessed if the contribution of the Kriegers Flak wind farm at these neighbors is larger than 15 dB below the noise received from existing wind turbines. The calculation of a noise line equivalent to the threshold minus 15 dB, called

“15 dB line” or consequence zone has been made in each of the cases (normal and low frequency noise). The “15 dB lines” relating to the thresholds listed in Figure 1 are presented in Table 1.

In none of the cases there are any neighbors to existing turbines within the consequence zone. Any area to which the Kriegers Flak turbines contribute with a noise impact of less than 15 dB below the relevant threshold is not considered impacted and therefore not included in the calculation. Therefore, no neighbors to existing wind turbines have been considered in the calculations and no existing wind turbines have been included.

In the following sections, the maps for the 15 dB consequence zone and for the resulting noise are presented for both Normal and Low Frequency noise.

The noise impact from Kriegers Flak is below the thresholds listed in figure 1 for all receptors onshore and in

compliance with the regulation.

4 Low Frequency Noise

4.1 15db rule consequence zone

Since no neighbors to existing turbines are close to or within the consequence zone, no existing turbines are included in the calculation.

The low frequency noise level at the closest relevant point to the closest existing turbine has been calculated. The noise immission of Kriegers Flak wind turbines alone at this point (Nørrebyvej 31) is calculated to 3.8 dB(A). Adding the contribution of the existing turbine, the noise level becomes 4.0 dB(A), which is well below the threshold of 20 dB(A).

4.2 Results Low frequency Noise

Since the noise lines are not reaching the coast, it can be concluded that the noise is below the threshold and the

regulation met.
