INTRODUCTION

Middle-aged men between 45-65 years who network in selected parks in Aalborg Municipality have been identified as

vulnerable and tend not to use and benefit from available health promotion offers

such as early detection. Anecdotal evidence indicates that they engage in risky health

behaviour with exposure to different health risk factors such as tobacco smoking, alcohol use and inactivity, which affects their overall health situation. Research additionally

indicates that vulnerable population groups receive few choices regarding their personal health behaviour and have limited access

to health information and -support to aid a sustaining health behaviour.

AIMS

To describe and explore the

characteristics of vulnerable middle-aged men’s perceptions about their personal health, health behaviour, health literacy, and their patterns of social- and health care contacts

To explore the services available in the health care- and social care system

in Aalborg Municipality in order to accommodate the health needs of vulnerable middle-aged men

To recommend the prerequisites for health promotion and early detection which

accommodate the vulnerable middle-aged men’s situation

PERSPECTIVES

This research will convey new knowledge by exploring the vulnerable middle-aged men’s perspectives. Exploration of health

services available correlated to the vulnerable middle-aged men’s perspectives will provide essential insight important for health

promotion and early detection to vulnerable population groups. This knowledge will be valuable to local health administrators,

and health- and social workers in Aalborg Municipality and contributory in increasing the vulnerable middle-aged man’s personal health and well-being.
