China: Danish Minister and

Parliamentarians visit China focussing on Sustainable Energy

The now former Danish Minister for Climate, Energy and Building, Mr Martin Lidegaard visited China with a group of nine Danish parliamentarians during the second week of January.

During the second week of January 2014 the now former Danish Minister for Climate, Energy and Building visited China together with a group of 9 Danish parliamentarians from the Climate, Energy and Building Committee. The visit gave the delegation a possibility to get a first-hand impression of China’s remarkable development within renewable energy and of the Sino-Danish cooperation in this field. An intense programme brought the delegation to Beijing, Harbin, Yilan, Anshan and Shenyang, and the delegation met with representatives from central government, experts, and company

representatives and with provincial, county and city government leaders.

The bilateral cooperation between Denmark and China on renewable energy and energy efficiency has been further deepened in recent years with the establishment of China National Renewable Energy Centre (CNREC) in 2012 and the Danish Ministry’s cooperation agreements with NDRC, NEA, MoHURD and MoST. This has made the now former Danish Minister for Climate, Energy and Building Mr. Martin Lidegaard a frequent visitor to China, and this

January he brought with him a delegation of nine Danish parliamentarians to China to listen to and discuss with Chinese decision makers and experts as well as representatives from Danish private sector in China. Throughout the visit the delegation was met with high Chinese ambitions for a more

sustainable energy production and utilization, as well as genuine interest in Danish energy policy and a broad recognition of the value of Sino-Danish cooperation. The Danish efforts to become an energy efficient economy with a high share of renewable energy receive great attention in China, and there is a significant interest in Danish regulatory experiences as well as technologies
