China: The Economist highlights

Chinese wind energy including Danish assistance and experience on wind

power

A recent article in British newspaper The Economist presents the positive developments on wind energy in China, and draws on Danish experiences on infrastructure as an inspiration for Chinese action. Denmark is connected to the grids of neighboring countries, which makes it possible to meet two-fifths of its electricity consumption from wind energy.

Furthermore, The Economist looks at the challenges that China faces when trying to improve and increase the share of wind power. Danish Kaare

Sandholt, says to The Economist that deep changes are needed in China to increase the wind energy. Without changes it might not make economic sense to invest in wind.

In Beijing, Kaare Sandholt is chief advisor at the think-tank China National Renewable Energy Centre (CNREC), partly initiated by the Danish Energy Agency. CNREC assists China’s energy authorities in renewable energy policy research and implementation, industrial management and coordination, as well as providing technical and consulting service to the industry.
