4

Muligheder i Østersøen

(5)

Hypoteser

• Over 250.000 mennesker er ansat i danske virksomheder i regionen

• Potentiale for containerlaster i Østersøen = enormt

• Vækst i råvarer og genanvendte materialer

• Flest mulige havne i DK giver fordel i forhold til landtransport og reducerer risiko for kunder

Fakta III

I alt + 10,000 MW

(9)

• Svovlkrav 1. januar 2015.

9

Svovlkrav

(10)

Muligheder i Østersøen

Low sulphur directive from 1.1. 2015

From 1st January 2015, fuels used within the SECA must be ”low sulphur”, i.e. with at sulphur contents of maximum 0.10 % . This applies to all vessel under all flags

Over 5000 vessels trades more than 50 % within the SECA-area.

(41)

Unifeeder corporate presentation 10/09/2013 11

Which possibilities are there to comply

?

1. Fit the vessel with scrubbers

Refitting is estimated to be more than € 1 mill – pending of vessel size/type. Additional costs to a new build is estimated to be less – amount unknown

This is the «rational» choice – for those who believe that HFO will prevail as the competitive fuel over LNG – within the ECA’s

2. Fit vessels to be able to use LNG

Cost of refitting is estimated to be more than € 4 mill – pending vessels size/type. Additional costs to a new build is estimatet to be € 2 mill – pending vessel size/type

The choice for the brave ! – those who believe that LNG will be accessible in sufficient quantities and available more cheaply than HFO!

3. Use low sulphur fuel

Only minor modifications to the onboard fuel system are required for existing ships. Ships built after January 2016 will also need a Selective Catalytic Reduction (SCR) system to reduce NOx emissions in order to operate inside an ECA (cost USD 0,3 m)

This is the obvious choice of the «let’s wait and see-lot»

(42)

Unifeeder corporate presentation 10/09/2013 12

What challenges are connected to the possibilities

1. The current financial situation makes it difficult for the vessel owners to find funds for the re-fitting

2. The current technology is not able to solve the problem effectively 3. The infrastructure to support scrubbers and LNG is not in place 4. The yards do not have sufficient capacity to perform the re-fitting,

even if funds were available

(43)

Unifeeder corporate presentation 10/09/2013 13

If we were to sail on 100% gasoil

Current IFO 380 bunker price (USD 660/ton in Oct 2012) equals a bunker related cost/TEU at index 100.

Changing to gasoil would at current gasoil price (USD 998/ton in Oct 2012) mean an increase in bunker related costs/TEU to index 150

But….

The assumption is that caused by the additional demand, the price for gasoil will increase – nobody knows by how much.

Assuming it increases by 40%, then the bunker related cost/TEU will increase to index 210

(44)

Unifeeder corporate presentation 10/09/2013 14

What can WE do?

Emission reduction is not achieved solely through technology. It is also achieved by making sure that each TEU is transported as efficient as possible. This is achieved amongst other through

Increasing scale

Increasing vessel size

Optimizing network to sail as short as possible with each TEU

Increase utilisation
