INTRODUCTION

Obesity  was  in  2016  included  in  of  the  ICD-‐10  as  a  chronic   disease  because  obesity  is  linked  to  serious  health

condi=ons  such  as  diabetes,  musculoskeletal  disorders,

heart  diseases,  and  cancer.  As  obesity  also  have  significant   implica=ons  for  occupa=onal  performance  and

par=cipa=on  in  everyday  life,  obese  individuals  have

difficul=es  par=cipa=ng  in  valued  and  necessary  everyday   occupa=ons.  In  a  study  exploring  the  experiences  of

individuals  with  obesity  and  their  par=cipa=on  in  daily

occupa=ons,  the  par=cipants  described  that  shopping  for   clothes,  par=cipa=ng  in  many  ac=vi=es  with  there

children,  planning  vaca=ons  and  looking  for  work  were  put   on  hold  as  they  felt  s=gma=zed  or  judged  while  in  public

because  of  their  body  habitus.

OBJECTIVE

The  overall  objec=ve  is  to  develop  an  occupa=onal  therapy  weight-‐loss  programme  which

efficiently  leads  to  a  sustainable  weight  reduc=on  with  less  limita=ons  in  everyday  life  and  a

higher  quality  of  life.  It  will  firstly  target  social  norms  and  rela=ons,  par=cipa=on  in  meaningful   everyday  ac=vi=es,  and  habit  changes,  and  secondly  target  physical  exercise  and  diet.

RELEVANCE FOR OCCUPATIONAL THERAPY AND OCCUPATIONAL SCIENCE

The  poten=al  of  obesity  to  impact  everyday  occupa=on   suggests  a  role  for  occupa=onal  therapy  in  obesity

treatment  and  preven=on.  Through  an  emerging  area  of   research,  a  recent  scoping  review  of  occupa=onal  therapy   delivered  interven=ons  for  overweight  and  obese  adults   showed  posi=ve  effects  when  occupa=onal  therapists  are   part  of  weight  loss  programmes.

METHODS

The  programme  will  be  developed  with  inspira=on  from   Evidence  Based  Prac=ce,  Lifestyle  Redesign  and  the

occupa=onal  science  framework  ‘Doing,  Being,  Becoming   and  Belonging’
